We saw Rossini's Cinderella today (an abbreviated version). It was OK. Like many things in Atlanta, it was pretty but missing something, depth/meat. The Cobb Energy Center has been the Opera's home for two years now. You would think in this time they would have figured out how to seat ~ 1,000 kids (most likely half that today) in a orderly and timely manner; nope, not yet. Anyway, Rossini has never been one of my favs, but for $6 a head, it was a nice field trip on a crisp autumn day. I know, I'm a snob.

Sometimes I think theatres decide to take the edge off a production. In England there is a company that produce classical concerts with gimmicks such as a 'rose for every lady'(bleergh!). They are professional and polished but magic you hope for is snuffed out and beautiful music is reduced to syrup or worse - cheese.
I am sorry it wasn't magical. We are going to two performances this coming month....Christmas Carol, and the Nutcracker. I will let you know how they compare....

That is terrible, but the opera is still an opera and a decent field trip and good exposure. When you take them to a fabulus show, they will know the difference.
When they are teens and blast arias from their stereos, you will be proud. I know I am.
